The Public Affairs Section, in cooperation with the Angola Fulbright Alumni Association, hosted an town hall for all Embassy Luanda exchange program alumni. The energetic group of alumni included a 1998 IVLP alumnus and a Fulbright alumnus who returned to Angola last week, as well as YALI Washington Fellows set to depart for the United States the next day. The group of more than 40 alumni discussed the future of the organization and activities they believe they can conduct to strengthen both Angolan society and the ties between the United States and Angola. The town hall featured a breakout session for alumni to discuss the organization’s new name, purpose, and possible activities of the association before returning and presenting on their ideas. Chargé d’Affaires, Heather Merritt, spoke to the assembly and spent time at the reception following the town hall discussing an array of alumni-related issues. The event was designed with the Fulbright Alumni Association to open it up to the entire alumni community in Angola.
