US Power Africa Program Helps Connect Power Grids in Angola

On April 7, 2021, Ambassador Nina Maria Fite visited the Lauca Dam, the largest hydroelectric dam in Angola. We are happy to be part of the project to connect the over 2,000 megawatts of energy generated at Lauca to other regional power providers, giving many more Angolans access to reliable power.

Located on the border of the provinces of Cuanza North and Malange, Lauca Dam is the largest power station in the country, connecting Angola’s power grid from north to south.  The dam provides energy to 8,000,000 customers, greatly increasing Angola’s electrification rate, which previously hovered around 43% in cities and less than 10% in rural areas.
