Angola and the U.S. Identify New Areas of Cooperation

General David Rodriguez, Commander USAFRICOM, paid a two-day visit to Luanda September 24-25. During his visit, he met with senior military and civilian leaders from the Government of Angola as well as leading business people to discuss regional and maritime security. General Rodriguez met with the Angolan Minister of Defense on September 24 and with the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force at Army Headquarters on September 25. At Army headquarters, General Rodriquez visited the English language training center which benefits from support for training of English teachers in the United States and the Amy clinic which benefits from U.S. military medical training support. This was General Rodriquez’s first visit to Angola. In an interview at the historic Fortaleza de Sao Miguel and Military Museum, General Rodriguez expressed the mutual interest Angola and the United States have in finding additional areas of cooperation such as engineering and maritime security.
