Event: The Angolan Ministry of Health has confirmed 70 cases of COVID-19 in Angola.
On May 25, the government of Angola downgraded the State of Emergency to a State of Calamity, which is scheduled to remain in effect through June 9. Under the rules of the State of Calamity, effective immediately, health centers and hospitals shall resume full operations; most businesses may resume full operations from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.; restaurants may reopen Monday through Saturday, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; public transportation will continue to operate at 50 percent of passenger capacity; and hotel and guest houses may reopen to the public. Face masks are still required when shopping, on public transportation, and in any public offices, and the measure also calls for adherence to social distancing. Angola remains closed to passenger flights, the borders remain closed for all but commercial transport, and Luanda Province remains closed to overland personal travel or domestic passenger flights. The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Global COVID-19 Outbreak Notice.
U.S. citizens who live in Angola should arrange for immediate return to the United States unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.
