HEALTH ALERT: U.S. Embassy, Luanda

Subject: HEALTH ALERT: U.S. Embassy, Luanda (May 19, 2020)

Location: Angola (countrywide)

Event: The Angolan Ministry of Health has confirmed 50 cases of COVID-19 in Angola.

On May 8, the government of Angola extended the State of Emergency measures implemented to limit the spread of COVID-19 through May 25.  Schools and universities are closed until further notice, and sporting events, festivals, and gatherings larger than 50 people have been banned.  The new measures do allow domestic workers to work from 6am to 3pm, and informal markets may open from Tuesday through Saturday.  Face masks are required when shopping, on public transportation, and in any public offices.  All borders remain closed.  Visit the local government Ministry of Health website for updated information.

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory for COVID-19.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 3 Global COVID-19 Outbreak Notice.

Angolan borders remain closed and there are very few flights departing.  U.S. citizens who live in Angola should arrange for immediate return to the United States, unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.  The below list represents private travel agencies offering repatriation flights to Europe.  The Embassy is making this list available to help our citizens who are interested in returning to the U.S.; we do not endorse any of the companies on this list.  U.S. citizens interested in leaving Angola can contact these companies directly for more information or for ticketing.
