The U.S. Embassy in Luanda informs U.S. citizens that an Angolan group plans to hold a protest on Wednesday, September 6, at the Largo da Independencia (Primeiro de Maio) beginning around 8:00 AM. All are encouraged to avoid the area and surrounding streets.
In addition, the post-election period has the potential for random protests, demonstrations, and large gatherings. U.S. citizens are advised to exercise caution, maintain a high level of vigilance, and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
