Diversity Visa 2024 (DV Lottery)

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE ANNOUNCES REGISTRATION PERIOD FOR THE 2024 DIVERSITY VISA LOTTERY (DV-2024)

The Embassy of the United States of America is pleased to announce that the registration period for the 2024 Diversity Visa Lottery will run until November 8, 2022. As in previous years, the diversity visa lottery is open to all citizens of Angola and Sao Tome and Principe who have completed high school or meet specialized training and employment qualifications.

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available up to 55,000 diversity visas (DVs) each year, drawn by random selection among all entries to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements. The program aims to diversify the immigrant population in the United States by selecting applicants from countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. in the previous five years. Being randomly chosen as a selectee does not guarantee a U.S. visa or a visa interview.

There is no fee to enter the diversity visa lottery, and the Department only accepts entries online through dvprogram.state.gov. Many websites and businesses advertise services for assistance with submission of Diversity Visa program entries. Any entity claiming it can increase your chances of being selected is being dishonest. In the past, some unscrupulous visa facilitators have assisted applicants with their entries, held the confirmation page, and then demanded more money or illegal activity in exchange for the essential confirmation number included on the page. Entrants should be cautious of these schemes. The U.S. Department of State strongly encourages applicants to complete the entry themselves, since false information, even in error, can result in disqualification. If applicants seek help from others, they should be present when the entry is prepared in order to provide correct answers to the questions and retain a copy of the confirmation page and unique confirmation number. Beginning May 6, 2023, diversity visa entrants will be able to use their unique confirmation number to see if their entry was selected. To prevent fraud, entrants should be aware that the Department will never make selection or visa interview notifications by mail, email, or phone.
